New tier 1 COVID sites in Hume, Whittlesea

Update: Seventy-eight of today’s 221 COVID-19 cases are in Hume, chief health officer Brett Sutton has announced.

There are four new cases of the virus in the City of Whittlesea.

Professor Sutton said that case numbers would “almost double” over the next week.

“We need everyone in these areas to be on guard for symptoms and potential exposures,” he said.

“Every time you leave your house you really have to be aware of the fact that you might be exposed.

“In some ways the mystery cases that emerge are because people don’t consider themselves at risk… don’t think of themselves as being at risk and therefore become infectious in the community and transmit to others.

“You really have to work on the assumption that this virus can be anywhere.

“You have to be super vigilant.”

Premier Daniel Andrews has also announced that single parents, whether they are authorised workers or not, can access childcare services in the state.

Earlier: New tier one COVID-19 exposure sites across Hume and Whittlesea have been identified by the health department.
