New supply powers Woodend market expansion

The power has gone on at Woodend farmers market as the Macedon Ranges Sustainability Group pushes ahead with plans to expand the monthly event.

Market co-ordinator Sharon Kittson says a new power supply, installed at the northern end of the market site last week, is central to the group’s vision to extend the market and make it more accessible for stallholders and customers.

A recently secured permit will allow the market to double from about 60 to 120 stalls over the next 10 years and move onto an all-weather surface near the tourist information centre.

“[This] will mean heavy vehicles and visitors won’t have to go through mud in the winter months,’’ Ms Kittson says.

She says the market, which started in 2012, attracts about 3000 people a month, half of whom come from out of town. The market is on the first Saturday of the month.
