An outreach service aimed at helping people who have attempted suicide has been extended to Broadmeadows.

The Hospital Outreach Post-suicidal Engagement (HOPE) program is a follow-up and aftercare service for people aged 18 and over who attend a hospital in a crisis or following a suicide attempt.

Broadmeadows MP Frank McGuire said the service would provide holistic clinical and social support to the community.

“The HOPE expansion is part of our commitment to building a better mental health system for all Victorians,” Mr McGuire said.

“This new service in Broadmeadows means people in crisis can receive care and support in their community.”

The Victorian government funded an expansion of the program to implement a recommendation from the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System.

Delivered by NorthWestern Mental Health, the service will provide up to 12 weeks of clinical and social support, tailored to individuals and their support networks.

The extension of the service to Broadmeadows has created 10 jobs.
