New playground for South Morang

Children living in South Morang’s Hawkstowe estate will soon have a new playground to explore.

The playground will be built in Hawkstowe Parade at McMillan Run after Whittlesea council received $110,000 from the state government’s Interface Growth Fund for the project.

The council will contribute $95,000. The playground will feature three slides, three swings, a fireman’s pole, a climbing rope, a see-saw and spinners.

It will also include fitness equipment and seats, with new indigenous landscaping centred around an old peppercorn tree.

Council lobbied for the funding after it had identified the need for play and fitness equipment in the area.

Mayor Stevan Kozmevski said the playground would be a great asset for the South Morang community and would be enjoyed by families for “years to come”.

Two other playgrounds have also benefited from the Interface Growth fund – $40,000 for Lalor’s Casey Drive Park and $110,000 to Grevillea Park in Mill Park.
