New measles exposure sites

The Department of Health has listed four measles exposure sites in the northern suburbs since 28 January.

The most recent exposure occurred at Northend Medical at 48-50 Childs Road Epping, on Wednesday 4 February.

The exposure time is 8.40am to 10.30am, those present at the exposure site during this time should monitor for symptoms up to Sunday 22 February.

On Friday 30 January, a second exposure occurred at the Plenty Valley Westfield Commonwealth, shop 29 McDonalds Road, South Morang, from 2-3pm.

Those present should monitor for symptoms up to Thursday 17 February.

Two further instances were listed at Melbourne Airport and an Emirates flight on Thursday 29 January

The flight that has been listed as an exposure site is Emirates Flight EK406 which departed Dubai and arrived at Melbourne Airport.

The exposure date for the flight is Wednesday 28 January to Thursday 29 January, 10.05am to 6.55am.

The exposure date for Melbourne Airport in Tullamarine, terminal 2 was 29 January from 6.25am to 9am.

Those present at these exposure sites during the listed times should monitor for symptoms up to Monday 16 February.

Measles symptoms usually start with fever, cough, runny nose, red or sore eyes or feeling generally unwell.

This is usually followed by a rash which often starts on the face before spreading down the body

If symptoms develop, seek medical care.

If attending a health service, call the health service beforehand to inform them you may have been exposed to measles and wear a face mask.
