New lanes open in major Epping upgrade milestone

Drivers are seeing smoother travel through Wollert, with a new section of northbound lanes on Epping Road officially opening.

Crews opened the lanes between Harvest Home Road and Craigieburn Road East on Wednesday, September 24, marking a significant step in the Big Builds Road program upgrade.

The milestone also restored turn and through-lanes from several key side roads, including Craigieburn Road East, Lehmanns Road, Pine Park, Linfield and Baltrum drives, and Harvest Home Road.

Big Build Roads program director Dipal Sorathia said the progress would make an immediate difference for local travel.

“We’re pleased to have opened the new section of northbound lanes on Epping Road in a huge milestone that also allowed us to resume full movement from a number of key side roads,” he said.

“We thank the community for their patience as we continue working toward delivering safer, smoother travel and better connections for all the users of Epping Road.”

Traffic is currently flowing in one lane each way while crews complete work on the centre median, expected to finish in late October.

To minimise disruption, De Rossi Boulevard will remain closed until October 4 while a raised pedestrian crossing is installed. Lyndarum Drive is also closed for intersection upgrade works and will reopen in mid-October.

The Epping Road Upgrade remains on track to complete major works before the end of the year, adding lanes in each direction along a 4 kilometre stretch between Craigieburn Road East and Memorial Avenue.

The project also includes new walking and cycling paths to improve safety and connections for the community.
