Students at Gilson College have access to a new library and learning areas, following the opening of the school’s newest building.

Gilson College received $997,500 from the state government’s non-government schools grants program to help it complete the fit-out of an unfurnished two-storey building on the Mernda campus.

The building includes a library, five general learning areas, amenities, offices and storage space.

The project cost $2.77 million, with Gilson College contributing the remainder of the money.

The non-government schools grants program has already provided funding for 86 projects to build and upgrade Catholic and independent schools across Victoria.

Yan Yean MP Danielle Green, who visited the school earlier this month to officially open the building, said the grants program helped provide every child with access to state-of-the-art schools.

“Gilson College is one of the many education choices open to local students. Making this investment ensures they will have improved access to a great local school,” she said.
