Whittlesea council has reopened and expanded its Environmental Works Grant Program (EWGP). UP to $6000 is now available per property to better support large-scale projects.
The annual initiative supports on-ground conservation projects to protect and enhance the growth of native vegetation on private rural land.
The grants aim to provide financial incentives for fencing, erosion control, weed management, and revegetation works in a bid to improve biodiversity, remnant vegetation protection, the installation of water troughs, pest control and a range of other sustainable land management practices.
Priority is given to projects which aim to protect already existing native bushland, create homes for Whittlesea’s wildlife, and boost the biodiversity of the land.
Whittlesea Mayor Cr Martin Taylor said the grants work to encourage landowners to preserve local and threatened flora and fauna.
“The Environmental Works Grant Program is a practical way we can work together to protect our unique landscape and support local wildlife,” he said.
“The City of Whittlesea is proud to support our rural landowners in taking care of the natural environment.”
