Bicycle Network (BN) is encouraging Australians to get involved with National Ride2Work Day on October 19.

BN chief executive Alison McCormack said people who ride their bikes to work save up to $1800 a year on fuel.

“Completely swapping your vehicle for a bike (or e-bike), also eliminates costs associated with registration, licensing, insurance and loan repayments,” Ms McCormick said.

BN said there are a number of perks to riding, including improvements to physical and mental health, as well as a carbon footprint reduction.

“It’s a lot easier than people think, and National Ride2Work Day is a great opportunity for people to dust off their bikes and give it a go,” Ms McCormick said.

National Ride2Work Day is now in its 30th year and is one of Australia’s biggest behaviour change initiatives.

“Bicycle Network’s research shows that almost half of the people who ride for the first time on National Ride2Work Day go on to become regular bike commuters,” BN said.
