Motorcyclist in critical condition following Thomastown crash

A motorcycle rider is in a critical condition in hospital after a collision in Thomastown last night.

It is believed the motorcyclist was travelling north on High Street when struck by a dark-coloured Ford sedan that was attempting to turn into Newton Street just before 11pm.

Police said the driver of the Ford, a 72-year-old Thomastown man, stopped and rendered assistance.

The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and was taken the Royal Melbourne Hospital by ambulance with head, chest, pelvis and leg injuries.

The Ford driver was treated for chest injuries and was taken to The Northern Hospital in a stable condition.

Police said the exact cause of the collision was yet to be determined.
