More trams for AFL fans

More frequent tram services aimed at helping Victorians get to the footy faster are set to be brought in from Monday, April 14.

Passengers on routes 48, 70 and 75 will be able to choose from increased services on Friday and Saturday nights – with trams arriving every 15 minutes until 11pm along the entire route.

The routes pass by the MCG and Melbourne Park, complementing the additional special event trams that run when major events are on.

Getting to these events will be made easier with services set to be increased on Sunday mornings for routes 70 and 75 to provide more options and meet increased demand.

In total, there will be 21 additional weekly services added to routes 48, 70 and 75, including 11 that run the length of the route and 10 that start or end at the Camberwell Depot.

In addition, there will be minor timetable changes for tram routes 1, 3, 5, 6, 11, 12, 16, 48, 64, 67, 70, 72, 75, and 109, aimed at providing a more consistent and reliable service.

The changes reflect passenger feedback, with more demand for evening and weekend services and a reduction in some early morning and shoulder peak services.

The timetable change will see a net increase of 11 weekly services.

Passengers are urged to plan ahead and check their timetables before they travel.

The new timetable can be viewed at ptv.vic.gov.au or via the Journey Planner app.
