Update: A new COVID-19 vaccination centre will be established at La Trobe University in Bundoora as part of a “supercharging” of Victoria’s vaccination efforts.

There will also be a pop-up site established at a Hindu temple in Mill Park, the exact location of which is yet to be announced.

It comes as chief health officer Brett Sutton confirmed that Hume has 97 active cases of COVID-19, and Whittlesea 23 cases.

“The emergent risks in the north of Melbourne should not be forgotten,” Professor Sutton said.

“Those cases have almost doubled in just three days.”

Professor Sutton said there were 47 cases linked to Kasr Sweets on Somerton Road, Coolaroo, and 21 linked to Classy Cabinets and Kitchens on Gasoline Way, Craigieburn.

“If you live in Hume or the northern suburbs… I want you to be extra vigilant for symptoms,” Professor Sutton said.

“Absolutely come forward at the first sign of symptoms, and get tested and isolate until you’ve got that result.

“Be absolutely clear that this virus is serious.

“It can hit you head on, you can become unwell very quickly, you can require hospitalisation very quickly.”
