Twenty-seven new coronavirus cases were recorded in Hume since yesterday but the municipality no longer has the highest number of cases in the state.
Hume has led the state’s coronavirus count since June 26 but lastest Department of Health and Human Services figures show Wyndham now has a higher number of cases, with 694 recorded since the pandemic began, of which 439 remain active.
There have been 693 cases recorded in Hume, of which 335 remain active.
The number of COVID-19 cases in Whittlesea continues to rise, with the municipality recording 29 new cases since yesterday, taking the total to 334 cases.
Of those, 213 remain active.
DHHS has confirmed a number of outbreaks across Whittlesea and Hume, including at Arcare aged care in Craigieburn.
The facility has recorded 33 cases of coronavirus.
On Tuesday, Arcare announced that one resident had died after testing positive to the virus.
Positive cases have been recorded in a number of other aged care facilities across the two municipalities, including Estia Coolaroo and Bundoora Extended Care.
There have been 10 cases confirmed at Bertocchi Smallgoods’ factory in Thomastown, with workers at Inghams’ Thomastown plant also testing positive.
According to the Department of Education and Training, five local schools are closed as a result of COVID-19. They are: Al Siraat, Epping Secondary College, Gladstone Park Secondary College, Newbury Primary School and Roxburgh College.
