Two new primary schools in Hume are a step closer after receiving funding from the state government’s Non-Government Schools Capital Fund.
The schools which will be Catholic schools, each received $4 million from the fund to help with stage one.
Work will include construction of administration, general learning areas, and student and staff amenities.
The first of the schools is scheduled to open in 2022 and will be built at Blackmore Road in Mickleham in the Merrifield estate.
The other school will be built on French Road in Greenvale in the Maples Estate and is scheduled to open the following year.
Yuroke MP Ros Spence said the project would help give local students and staff the best possible facilities.
“This investment is vital to Victoria’s economic recovery and creating jobs in the education state,” she said.
The schools are among 56 projects to receive funding from the Non-Government Schools Capital Fund.
Education Minister James Merlino said the funding was being fast-tracked to help the state recover from the impacts of COVID-19.
The state government expects that the 56 projects will create close to 800 jobs during construction.
Construction will be able to commence in the next six months.
