More than $2 million dollars will be provided to improve roads and infrastructure across the Whittlesea municipality by the federal government under phase four of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

McEwen MP Rob Mitchell announced that Whittlesea council will receive $1,417,408 plus an additional $817,592 to support local road projects.

“We have listened to councils and are standing side-by-side with local governments to support them in their vital work of delivering critical infrastructure for their communities,” Mr Mitchell said.

Phase four of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program has already delivered $500 million to Australian councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects in their region, which included more than $1.4 million for Whittlesea.

On Wednesday, May 3 the federal government announced a $250 million boost to phase four of the program, which included an additional $817,592 for Whittlesea.

The additional $250 million investment is available to councils classified as rural, regional or outer-urban to spend on road projects with 466 of Australia’s 550 councils set to benefit from the extra funding.

Councils will be able to access their Phase 4 funding allocations from July 2023, with projects to be delivered by June 2025.
