The McDonald’s restaurant in Mill Park has been closed for cleaning after a worker tested positive to coronavirus.

The Plenty Road restaurant was closed last night for deep cleaning, with a McDonald’s spokesperson saying the store is expected to reopen later today.

In a statement, McDonald’s said it had been advised that one of the confirmed COVID-19 cases at St Monica’s College works at the Mill Park restaurant.

“The individual is currently self-isolating at home and all potential workplace close contacts have been instructed not to return to work for 14 days,” the statement said.

“The health and safety of our people and our customers is our priority. We immediately commenced notifying all employees upon receiving notification of the diagnosis from the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services.

“McDonald’s Australia uses high-grade cleaning products throughout the strict cleaning, quality control and hygiene procedures that are adhered to in every shift at each of our restaurants.”

According to DHHS, the coronavirus outbreak involving St Monica’s College is “largely linked” to a social gathering in Wollert.

As of yesterday, the outbreak had grown to include five people.

The Mill Park restaurant is the third McDonald’s outlet forced to close for cleaning after a staff member contracted coronavirus.

In May, McDonald’s was forced to close restaurants in Fawkner and Craigieburn following an outbreak at Fawkner.

A further 12 stores across the north-western suburbs were also closed for cleaning after a delivery driver tested positive for the virus.
