Mernda man nearly loses $775,000 ticket

A Mernda man was oblivious that he had won $775,000 in TattsLotto for more than two weeks after taking his winning ticket from home on an overseas holiday.

The man held one of the eight division one winning entries drawn on Saturday, April 1 and took home $775,265.76.

The winning entry was unregistered, which meant that there was no way for the man to be contacted to break the news of his win.

The man said that the surprise win could allow him and his wife to cut back on working hours or even retire earlier than they had anticipated.

“It’s incredible,” he said.

“My wife and I were on holiday overseas for a couple of weeks, and I had accidentally taken the ticket with me. I had no idea it had won division one.

“Cash is the preferred currency where I was, and I kept the ticket in the cash section of the wallet.

“Gosh, the amount of times I’d taken cash in and out of the wallet. I could’ve lost the ticket a hundred times.”

His winning ticket was purchased at the Mernda Lucky Charm in Mernda.
