Meet one of YPRL’s dedicated librarians

Meet Rosie Turner, a regular storytime reader at Yarra Plenty Regional Library’s many locations and loves art, creativity, storytelling and books.

Rosie is one of YPRL’s dedicated librarians and delivers regular story time sessions for kids and families, which happen every day across YPRL’s locations.

What’s your name and how long have you worked as a librarian?

My name is Rosie Turner, and I’ve been working at Yarra Plenty Regional Libraries for just over eight months. Before this, I worked with the NGV Retail store surrounded by some of the most beautiful art books you could imagine! I also have a background in delivering children’s art programs with regional galleries in New South Wales. I’m so lucky to be a librarian because it blends so many of my passions : books, creativity, storytelling, and working with great kids!

What’s your favourite children’s book and why?

My favourite children’s book is Hairy Maclary’s Caterwaul Caper by Lynley Dodd. It’s pure fun, brilliantly illustrated, and almost impossible to read without doing the voices (which is half the joy, right?). I can’t help but get right into the characters when I read this book and it’s chaotic, cheeky and hilarious.

What children’s book do you think everyone should read?

If I had to choose just one, it would be Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. It’s a wonderful story about imagination, mischief, adventure and love. I think it resonates with kids of all ages and I think we can all see a bit of ourselves in Max! When you’re small, it’s about monsters and adventure; when you’re grown, it’s about longing, bravery, and knowing you can always sail home again.
