Masons Road trial to end

Traffic on Masons Road has fallen by more than 60 per cent and there have been no crashes causing injury recorded by emergency services since the road was limited to one-way five months ago, according to Whittlesea council.

The six-month trial of Masons Road as a one-way road, eastbound between Epping Road and Wilkes Court, will end on August 3.

The trial was put in place by the council after residents repeatedly raised concerns about road safety and the condition of the road.

Whittlesea council says that early results from the trial show traffic has fallen by 61 per cent as a result of the road being made one-way and that the condition of the road has deteriorated at a slower rate.

The council is urging residents to provide feedback on the effectiveness of the one-way trial in addressing safety, amenity impacts and road conditions.

“Council will consider a number of options for the future of Masons Road including maintaining one-way access, closing the road at a given point west of Wilkes Court, or returning to two-way flow as per before the trial,” the council said.

“The feedback, together with input from emergency services and other road users, will help inform council’s decision on the future of Masons Road.”
