Masons Road is set to remain open to two-way traffic, following feedback from residents.
Whittlesea council conducted a one-way trial of Masons Road earlier this year but community feedback showed residents were in favour of reduced speeds, less traffic, including through traffic on the gravel section, and the road remaining open and two-way.
Originally built as a gravel road to provide local farm access, Masons Road has become a popular rat run for residents wanting to bypass Bridge Inn Road.
The trial was put in place by the council after residents repeatedly raised concerns about road safety and the condition of the road.
Traffic on Masons Road fell by more than 60 per cent during the trial.
To keep the road open to two-way traffic, council will look to install 15 raised pavements on Masons Road between Plenty Road and Texel Drive and install a modified T-intersection at Pearsons Road to prevent further west-bound travel.
It’s hoped the improvements will reduce speeds on Masons Road and reduce the number of vehicles using the road as an east-west cut through.
The proposal was put out to the public feedback, with submissions closing last week.
