Man shot in Wollert

A man has been shot in Wollert this morning.

Homicide Squad Detective Inspector Dean Thomas said emergency services were called to Champions Parade just before 9am.

He said it was believed there was an incident involving two men in a laneway which runs behind Champions Parade, resulting in one man being fatally shot.

The other man fled from the scene in a car, he said.

The deceased man has not been formally identified by police but is believed to be a 221year-old man from Wollert who is known to police.

Detective Inspector Thomas said the shooting appeared to be “very deliberate and targeted” and would be investigated by the Homicide Squad.

He said police received a report of a burn out vehicle in Amery Street, Reservoir, and would investigate whether it was linked to the shooting.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
