Man shot by police in Meadow Heights

A man was shot by police following an incident in Meadow Heights on Saturday.

Police were executing a search warrant at a residential address on Mitchell Crescent when they were allegedly confronted by an occupant of the home and threatened with a hammer just before 8.30am, a Victoria Police statement said.

A police firearm was discharged and the man was struck to the lower body.

He received a non-life-threatening injury and was taken to hospital.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The search warrant was executed in relation to an investigation into an armed robbery at a service station in Coolaroo on January 26.

As per standard protocol following a police shooting, detectives from the Armed Crime Squad will investigate the incident with oversight from Professional Standards Command.
