Firefighters performed the rescue of a worker after he had fallen down a concrete shaft early Thursday morning.
About 6.20am the man slipped on a ladder before falling to the bottom of a 3 metre pit at work place on Sydney Road, Campbellfield.
The 51-year-old called emergency services to assist, stating he had sustained injuries in the fall and was unable to move.
Firefighters alongside ambulance attempted to help the man out of the pit due to concerns he had sustained spinal injuries.
With the use of specialised equipment firefighters were able to lift the worker out of the pit and into the care of ambulance.
The man was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with lower body injuries in a stable condition.
WorkSafe inspectors attended the incident and are yet to determine whether further action is required.
