A man has died and a woman taken to hospital under police guard following a collision in Epping last night.
Emergency services attended a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Cooper Street and Edgars Road at 11.15 pm yesterday.
It is understood that a white SUV and a silver hatchback collided.
The male driver of the hatchback, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.
The driver of the SUV, a 47-year-old Meadow Heights woman, was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition with a lower body injury.
She was accompanied by police and will be interviewed.
The incident brings the total lives lost on Victorian roads this year to 251.
