A Mill Park man has been charged with two counts of murder following the death of a woman and a girl in the suburb on January 13.
Emergency services were called to a house in Kellaway Crescent after reports of a stabbing.
The incident left a 39-year-old woman and a six-year-old girl dead.
A 10-year-old girl was also at the address but managed to flee, according to Homicide Squad Detective Inspector Dean Thomas.
The 40-year-old man remains under police guard in hospital. He will face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court at a date to be determined.
