Man charged following Donnybrook home invasion

Police have charged a man following an aggravated home invasion in Donnybrook last month.

A 23-year-old Collingwood man was arrested on Wednesday, February 14.

Police charged him with aggravated home invasion, aggravated burglary, assault with a weapon, reckless conduct endangering life, possession of methylamphetamine, possession of drug of dependence, handling stolen goods, and driving whilst disqualified.

The charges follow an incident where several men gained access to a property on Middlemount Street about 4.20am on January 7, where a man and a woman were home at the time.

An altercation allegedly occurred between the invaders and the couple ensued, leading to shots being fired.

A short time later, officers were called to the address for reports of an injured man, who was one of the alleged invaders.

Emergency services performed CPR on the man, but he died at the scene.

Police are still investigating his death.

A resident home at the time, a 27-year-old Donnybrook woman, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The other resident, a 28-year-old man, was not physically injured during the incident.

The man arrested will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, February 15.

The investigation remains ongoing.
