A splash pad and accessible change rooms will be added to the Whittlesea Swim Centre as part of a $1.1 million upgrade.

The second stage of the upgrade, which is jointly funded by the state government and Whittlesea council, recently commenced, coinciding with the start of the summer swimming season.

The upgrade will include the installation of more synthetic turf, trees and shade sails at the centre.

Stage one of the project included an upgrade to the change rooms, kiosk and paths.

Cr Lawrie Cox said the project would enhance the experience for pool users and ensure the pool stayed a much-loved feature of the Whittlesea community into the future.

“Important projects like these would not be possible without the support of the state government, particularly the Growing Suburbs Fund,” he said.

Work on the refurbishment will continue throughout the summer.

“While swimmers will be able to enjoy the pool, some areas of the centre will be fenced off while work continues,” Cr Cox said.

The Whittlesea Swim Centre is open from 9am to 6pm daily.
