A lockdown at Beveridge Primary School has been lifted following earlier reports of a man with a firearm.
Students at the primary school were locked in their classrooms this afternoon and parents waiting to collect their children were told to wait in their cars.
Senior Constable Melissa Seach said police responded to a report of a sighting of a man with a firearm this afternoon but the sighting remains unconfirmed.
She said the school was given the all clear about 4.30pm.
3AW wast old that four students reportedly spotted a man wearing a ski mask and carrying a gun on school grounds.
Jenny, a parent at the school, told the radio station that she and other parents at Beveridge Primary School were told by police to stay in their cars in the local carpark as their students were still inside.
Neil Robertson, the Channel 7 helicopter pilot who was over Beveridge, told 3AW that he could see half a dozen police on scene and the front entrance had been completely sealed as they attempted to locate the man.
Victoria Police said no theats were made but the school followed its emergency plan as a precaution.
Beveridge Primary School was directing all enquiries to the Department of Education.
