Lalor’s public spaces have been revamped, with new playgrounds, public amenities and pedestrian thoroughfares unveiled today.

Local Government and Suburban Development Minister Shaun Leane and Thomastown MP Bronwyn Halfpenny officially launched the $4.8 million “facelift” on Monday.

The heart of Lalor, including David, Station and Cyprus streets and May Road, has been opened up and better connected through the upgrade.

The project included safer pedestrian pathways, fresh landscaping, and new public spaces, tables and toilet facilities.

Ms Halfpenny said: “The improvements we’ve funded in Lalor will be transformational for the local community – making it more vibrant, safer and more connected for residents and a great place for local families to enjoy the outdoors”.

Rochdale Square also underwent a redevelopment, which included new barbecue and picnic facilities, an upgraded playground, better lighting, landscaping and improved footpaths.

The project was jointly funded by the state government and Whittlesea council, with $2.5 million and $2.3 million contributed respectively.
