Rochdale Square in Lalor has undergone a transformation, with a partnership between Whittlesea council and the state government making the site a family-friendly community hub.
The redeveloped park and shopping precinct was officially opened this week by council administrator Peita Duncan and Local Government and Suburban Development Minister Shaun Leane.
The new-look site now includes a playground, picnic settings, barbecues, and shelters, aimed at providing the “perfect detour” on residents’ next visit to the shopping strip.
Buddhas Essence of Healing in Lalor owner Alex Morgan said the park and streetscape improvements created a more inviting space for families and customers.
“The upgrades have definitely freshened up the area and given it a whole new peaceful energy. Rochdale Square has a great community atmosphere,” he said.
Ms Duncan said the upgrade created a welcoming space for residents to both shop and socialise, while also keeping children entertained.
“We’re delighted that the improvements to Rochdale Square are helping to support the hard-working local businesses, many of which have been affected by long closures throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.” Ms Duncan said.
“It’s heartening to see how the redevelopment has re-energised the area and enabled residents to connect with their community close to home.”
