Lalor Stars will need a miracle to claim the Diamond Valley Cricket Association Money Shield premiership.

Banyule has one hand on the trophy after a strong day one in the grand final on Saturday.

The Stars elected to bat, but it would prove costly as they were bowled out for just 78.

After losing playing coach Steven Kemp for just one, the Stars were looking alright at 3-62.

It would go downhill from there, losing that last seven wickets for just 16 runs.

Wayne Dow top scored with 26 as just two players reached double figures.

Banyule started well in the run chase, before losing two wickets in quick succession.

It recovered and will resume at 2-50.

Mitchell Hayse has both wickets for the Stars.

In the Barclay Shield, Heidelberg had a solid day with the bat against Diamond Creek.

Heidelberg made 8-204 from its overs.

Brad Nihill finished 56 not out, while Daniel Gilbert finished with three wickets for Diamond Creek.

In the Mash Shield, Laurimar is on top after day one against Bundoora Park.

Bundoora Park, in their first season in the DCVA, were bowled out for 103.
