A Lalor resident will be among 29 women vying to be crowned Miss Universe Australia tomorrow.
Hawra Khalil is one of six Victorian finalists in the national beauty pagaent.
She will be joined on stage by fellow Victorian finalists Daria Varlamova, Emily Ward, Jessica Kernjak, Maki Krstevski and Stacey Flemming.
Ms Khalil’s adverse upbringing, including being born in a refugee camp and growing up as a hijabi woman facing constant discrimination and bullying, has inspired her to use her voice to challenge stereotypes and barriers.
Working as a professional makeup artist, studying law, and participating in Miss Universe Australia, are a few of the ways that she is breaking down stereotypes and inspiring young women to stand up, take charge and reach their goals.
All the national finalists have undergone seven months of the Miss Universe Australia self-development program where they have participated in workshops, interviews, runways, photoshoots, and fundraising events, each gaining newfound confidence, friendships, and opportunities.
The 2021 national final will be held online and will include the Rusty Swim Special, as well as official interviews and a runway show.
The newly crowned winner will proudly go on to represent Australia in the Miss Universe International Final in December 2021 in Eilat, Israel.
