Keen fishers will find more fish in their lakes with the state government last week stocking a number of lakes with more ‘stonker’ rainbow trout.
After a successful first drop of the stonker rainbow trout, the state government has dropped another 500 trout across a number of lakes in Melbourne.
Of the new fish stocking, 60 of the trout have been dropped in Yarrambat Lake, while 20 trout have been dropped in Roxburgh Park Lake.
The trout weigh at least four kilograms with some up to seven kilograms.
The stonker drops have been on top of the normal school holiday trout stockings that occur each year.
This year Yarrambat was allocated 2000 trout as part of the school holiday stockings and there have been 800 trout dropped at Roxburgh Park Lake as part of the same program.
Fishing and Boating Minister Melissa Horne said with COVID-19 restrictions starting to ease, the state government wanted to get people back outdoors.
All current COVID restrictions are to be followed when fishing.
“Visiting these lakes for family-friendly activities like fishing makes for an ideal way to enjoy the outdoors,” Ms Horne said.
“It’s great to see fishers safely wet a line again and this stocking program will give more people that opportunity in lakes close to their homes.”
There is a limit on the number and weight of fish families can catch each day.
