Labor’s Lauren Kathage looks likely to have won the seat of Yan Yean, leading Liberal candidate Richard Welch on Sunday afternoon, with 53 per cent of votes counted.
Ms Kathage is contesting the seat for Labor after MP Danielle Green decided to retire from politics after 20 years representing Yan Yean.
According to the Victorian Electoral Commission, Ms Kathage has secured 42 per cent of first preference votes to Mr Welch’s 35 per cent.
Labor is leading the two-party-preferred count 53.86 per cent to the Liberal’s 46.14 per cent.
