The City of Whittlesea is calling on passionate youths aged 12-22 years to step forward and get involved in helping to shape the future of their community as part of the City of Whittlesea Youth Council 2026-2027.
The youth council serves a two-year term and provides a unique opportunity for young leaders to directly influence local decision-making, represent their peers, and create meaningful change across the municipality.
The initiative aims to bring youth perspectives into council priorities while continuing to raise awareness on issues which matter most to young people.
Whittlesea mayor Martin Taylor said the youth council helps to get Whittlesea’s young people get involved in issues they care about.
“Through the Youth Council, young people have a direct voice in local decision-making. They provide advice, raise issues that matter to them, and play an active role in driving positive change across Whittlesea,” he said.
Whittlesea’s youth mayor Kaynat Virk said the youth council provides a unique opportunity for those involved to develop their skills.
““Over the last two years, I’ve not only grown in confidence and leadership but have seen every Youth Councillor develop their voice, their skills, and their ability to advocate for meaningful change,” she said.
