The countdown is on to next year’s Hume Relay for Life, with organisers hoping for a  record turnout for the Cancer Council fundraiser.

The 2018 event will be held on April 7 and 8 at the Sprint Athletics Centre in Craigieburn.

The annual overnight event raises money to help fund the Cancer Council’s research, prevention and information and support activities.

Among those set to take part in the relay is Hume councillor and Craigieburn resident Carly Moore.

Cr Moore and her family have been taking part in the event for a number of years.

She said the family had signed up for the fundraiser because cancer touches everyone’s lives.

“I relay for the people we’ve lost, the people who are fighting and the people who will be diagnosed in the future,” she said.

People can take part by starting their own teams or registering to be part of an existing team. Registration costs $20 per person if done before midnight on Sunday, January 14.
