Hume police give holiday message

Hume police hope all Hume residents have an amazing Christmas, New Year and safe holiday period, filled with family, friends and loved ones.

We ask everyone to please be safe and patient on our roads and to look after each other. We understand 2021 has been a difficult year and we pass on our thanks to all of Hume, for supporting the police and helping make Hume a safer place to live, work and play.

We were pleased to report on the lowest crime rate per 100,000 population recently, that cannot be achieved without the community and our stakeholders playing their part.

In the coming year, we are looking forward to jumping head first into Neighbourhood Policing.

We are looking forward to getting out to all corners of the 504 square kilometres that Hume encompasses.

We want to talk to the community, but mostly we want to listen.

The message is not to feel tense when you see the police, but to come and say hello. We are including community concerns in our action plan and will be addressing issues that make our residents feel unsafe. We want to deliver a service that meets the communities expectations.

Current focus areas in regards to community feedback are House Burglaries, dangerous dirt-bike riding, hoons, disorderly groups of youths and an increased presence at railway stations and after dark to keep the community safe. Family violence is also on our radar, being a significant issue in Hume.

This is within the control of those perpetrators to stop. My message to Hume residents that may be involved in crime is this, consider the impact, seek help and change your behaviour.

The Hume community, stakeholders and Police will not stand for it. If anyone has any information they would like to share with police anonymously, we encourage them to contact crime stoppers on 1800 333 000.

For the majority of the Hume community, doing their best to bring everyone together and keep the community safe, we urge you to please lock your house and car, secure trailers and tools and join a Neighbourhood Watch: ( nhw.com.au ).

Please also follow the Hume Eyewatch Page on Facebook to follow our results and updates.

Stay safe everyone!
