Hume council has received funding for three projects as part of the state government’s Empowering Communities initiative.

Granted through the Building Safer Communities Program, this funding is targeted at supporting the development of community-led crime prevention initiatives.

These three projects will be led by Banksia Gardens Community Services, Upfield Soccer Club and Waves of Wellness Foundation who will share a total funding of $200,000.

The projects have been chosen by the Hume Empowering Communities Action Group that was established in 2021 and is responsible for connecting the community with the initiative and overseeing its implementation.

This second round of projects follows the success of five Hume-based projects from last year which received a total funding of $306,769.

This year’s projects commenced in February and will be delivered through to June 30, 2024.

The Hume Action Group identified a need to provide children and young people aged 8-24 with opportunities to strengthen their engagement in education and/or employment, live in a safe and connected community, and have nurturing relationships with family or caregivers.

These projects recognise the strength of community-led efforts to promote community safety and crime prevention within the Hume area.
