Hume council is inviting the community to celebrate the opening of Seabrook reserve this Sunday, March 26.
The community day will feature kids’ rugby training drills run by NRL Victoria for those who have registered.
Residents will also have the opportunity to enjoy the new play space with features including a flying fox, swings, exercise stations, basketball half court and barbecue picnic areas.
Hume mayor Joseph Haweil says that this new space will be a gathering place for families and sports lovers to enjoy all year round.
“This is a world-class facility that will encourage the current and future sports stars of Hume City to keep active and develop their skills,” he said.
“This community day is a chance for residents to celebrate the future of local sport in Broadmeadows.”
The free community day will run from 10:30am-2pm and will include free food, coffee, ice-cream, and kid-friendly activities.
The reserve is set to undergo a further upgrade for a second-storey extension at the planned Rugby League Centre of Excellence.
The centre will provide a new training and administration base for NRL Victoria and is set to be the home of the future Melbourne Storm NRLW team.
The project involves a joint partnership between Hume Council, NRL Victoria, Melbourne Storm and the state government.
Seabrook Reserve is located at Goulburn Street, Broadmeadows, and final works are expected to be completed in late 2023.
