Hume council is encouraging residents to love thy neighbour and strengthen local connections as part of Neighbour Day 2025, offering 20 gift vouchers to those who show how they engage with their neighbours.
Neighbour Day, held annually on the last Sunday in March, promotes social connection and helps combat loneliness.
This year, Hume residents can enter a competition by submitting a photo and a short description of how they’ve connected with their community.
Hume mayor Jarrod Bell highlighted the importance of neighbourhood ties, noting research that shows strong local relationships lead to better support networks, especially in emergencies.
“Knowing your neighbours makes communities safer, more resilient, and less isolated,” Cr Bell said.
Ahead of Neighbour Day, the mayor attended the Teddy Bear Picnic where families and children gathered to meet new friends.
Entries for the competition close soon, with details available on the council’s website.
