There were lots of smiles as Mickleham’s newest school opened its doors for the first time.
Holy Cross Catholic Primary School welcomed its prep pupils on Friday, February 4, with grades one to six starting on February 7.
Principal Mark Miatello said planning for the school has taken many years.
“The greatest thing about our first day, was after the last 12 months of preparation and building and getting everything ready, just to be able to open the doors and welcome the kids was fantastic,” Mr Miatello said.
“Hearing the student’s voices and the excitement of them being at school – that was definitely the highlight.
“There was a great buzz on Monday– the families were really excited to have their kids start and we’ve just spent the last few days establishing routines because it’s a new start for everyone – teachers, students and families.
“Our theme this year is building culture and community as we welcome everyone into the new Holy Cross community.”
Mr Miatello said huge enrolment demand has seen the school enrol 154 pupils this year and there is already a long list of parents registering their interest for 2023 enrolment, which he expects to open towards the end of March.
This strong enrolment demand has already led the school to start planning design and construction for stage two facilities.
