Thomastown and Lalor residents and business owners are being invited to help shape the future of the area.
Whittlesea council said the invitation follows the expectation of the population increasing in the municipality’s “most vibrant and diverse suburbs”.
Both Thomastown and Lalor have a rich heritage and sense of community, according to council.
Chair administrator Lydia Wilson said it was important to set a clear vision for how the two areas will look, feel and function in the future.
“Council has been speaking with the local community over the past few months to find out what they see as the biggest challenges and opportunities for these suburbs,” Ms Wilson said.
“We have heard what people love about Thomastown and Lalor like the local shops and history, friendly people, and beautiful gardens.
“We also heard about the challenges people experience, including public transport connections and traffic issues, access to public open space and programs and activities for our young people.”
Six urban design principles are being proposed by council to address the challenges and opportunities identified in the suburbs, and the council is seeking feedback from residents and businesses to determine if they align with the community’s vision for the area.
