Help look after Epping Cemetery

The City of Whittlesea is inviting community members to express their interest in joining the Epping Cemetery Community Asset Committee to support the management of Epping Cemetery and help raise awareness of its heritage and role in the community.

The cemetery was established in 1853, with burials accepted until 1967. It’s now a class B closed cemetery with internment rights.

Council encourages local residents who are 18 years or older and either live in or own property within the municipality with an interest in community history and a desire to contribute to civic life to apply.

Historians, members of historical societies, those with family members who are interred at the site as well as those who are passionate about local history, the environment and protecting the cemetery’s future are particularly encouraged to take part.

Mayor Martin Tylor said “Epping Cemetery holds deep meaning for many in our community – whether through family connections, historical interest or a love for the local environment.”

“We’re inviting community members to help care for this space, honour its stories and play a part in planning for its future.”

Volunteers must be able to attend local meetings and events.
