UPDATE: A helicopter wreckage has been located by police on Mount Disappointment.
The Police Air Wing located the wreckage in the area of Blair’s Hut at 11.45am, Victoria Police said in a statement.
It’s believed the pilot and four passengers were on board at the time.
Police said a ground search will commence shortly.
EARLIER: Emergency services are searching for a helicopter that has gone missing in the Mount Disappointment area.
In a statement, Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria said they were responding to an aviation incident in the area.
It’s understood two helicopters were travelling north in convoy from Melbourne’s CBD over Mount Disappointment when one aircraft disappeared just after 9.30am, police said.
“At this stage the second helicopter is yet to be located,” police said.
“Emergency services are in the area searching.”
Ambulance Victoria said an air ambulance had been dispatched.
