A dancing heart and a flash mob took over the foyer of the Northern Hospital last week to demonstrate how to perform CPR.
The hospital celebrated Restart a Heart Day on October 16 to raise awareness about the importance of learning CPR and how to use a defibrillator machine.
Doctors, nurses, administration and executive staff took part in the flash mob performance.
Staff were also on hand throughout the day to teach visitors how to perform CPR.
Northern Health is currently fundraising for 60 new state-of-the-art defibrillators.
Northern Health cardiology director and divisional director of emergency services Bill van Gaal said the defibrillator upgrades would ensure the best equipment was available to northern suburbs residents experiencing heart failure.
“While early CPR is crucial in the event of a cardiac arrest, defibrillators are ultimately what is needed to restart your heart,” he said.
“It is important these are readily accessible and easy to use for our staff,” he said.
