The next step in the fast tracking of the Craigieburn West Precinct Structure Plan is underway, with the draft plan out for community consultation.
The Victorian Planning Authority is aiming to fast track 19 planning and infrastructure projects, including the Craigieburn West Precinct Structure Plan (PSP), as part of the government’s response to the COVID-19 crisis.
The PSP will add 8000 houses to Craigieburn West and will develop the area as a series of predominantly residential neighbourhoods supported by a local town centre and adjoining residential areas.
The PSP features a local activity centre, schools, community hubs, diverse housing typologies linked with a range of open spaces, including conservation reserves, active open space, sporting grounds and a network of local parks.
Bus services are expected to run through the new suburb, with a shared path for pedestrians and cycling, connecting with the surrounding footpath and cycle network.
It will complete the catchment to surrounding activity centres external to the PSP, including Craigieburn Central, Aston Village and Highlands Village.
The activity centre will include a full-line supermarket and specialty shops, with the ability to support non-retail local services
Hume council recently voted not to support the fast-tracking of the PSP until the state government commits to duplicating Mickleham Road.
Councillors are concerned that fast-tracking the project would exacerbate traffic problems in the area.
