Whittlesea council is inviting residents to have their say on a new draft plan which outlines how council manages the properties it owns.
Councillors voted at the August 19 council meeting to hold a four-week community consultation process to gauge residents’ support for the proposed plan, which guides how council manage and operate the over 2200 properties and 2100 hectares of land they own.
Council has purchased the properties and land over decades and require community feedback to ensure council continues to meet the needs of Whittlesea’s rapidly growing community.
The aim of the plan is to ensure property decisions made by council maximise community benefit and public value, align with council’s endorsed strategic documents, contribute to financial sustainability and promote development practices which support long-term growth.
The draft plan will be used to highlight three key focus areas for council in meeting community needs through property activities, maintaining strong standards in risk and compliance, and supporting sustainable and innovative property development with quality design.
Whittlesea mayor Martin Taylor said the purpose of the new draft plan is to provide a clear framework for council to make their decisions .
“The draft Strategic Property and Land Plan provides a clear and consistent framework to guide how council manages its land and property. It will help us optimise opportunities, reduce costs, and unlock long term value for the community,” he said.

Consultation runs from August 25 to September 21.
Following the conclusion of the community consultation period, feedback will be considered in the preparation of the final draft which will come to council later in the year.
