Have your say on $4 billion asset plan

Imagine a city without roads to travel or parks to stroll through, now imagine shaping the future of those very services.

That’s the opportunity now available to residents of Whittlesea, as council opens community consultation on its Draft Asset Plan 2025- 2034, a 10-year blueprint for managing and maintaining more than $4 billion worth of community assets.

From 1414 km of sealed roads and 2606 km of footpaths to local sporting fields, drainage systems, light poles, and buildings– the infrastructure that keeps daily life ticking is being placed under the microscope to ensure it remains strong, sustainable, and future-proofed for the next decade.

The draft plan, developed through robust community engagement including three focus groups, sets out eight guiding principles shaped by residents themselves.

It breaks down the city’s vast infrastructure into 11 portfolio categories, each with tailored strategies outlining challenges, opportunities, forecasted spending, and key actions.

Acting mayor Daniella Zinni said community input was critical.

“These assets are yours,” Cr Zinni said.

“They support your daily life– places to connect, opportunities to stay active, and infrastructure that helps you get around safely and efficiently. It’s important we have a clear and strong plan on how we manage and maintain these assets.”

Locals can now provide feedback via an online survey or by visiting one of several pop-up locations across the municipality.
