African drumming and henna tattooing will be part of the fun at a number of upcoming events in celebration of Melton’s rich diversity.
Cultural Diversity Week starts this weekend with Harmony Day on March 17 featuring food and performances from around the world, as well as face-painting and children’s activities.
The theme for 2018 is Proud to Belong, encouraging all Victorians to come together to share their culture, faith and language.
Entries are also open for a poster competition for children to express what harmony and diversity in the community means to them.
Melton mayor Bob Turner said that the municipality’s diversity was unique and he encouraged residents to participate in the local events.
“The city is home to people from over 130 nations,” Cr Turner said. “Everyone belongs and has a place in our community and we’ll be celebrating this and much, much more during Cultural Diversity Week.”
The Harmony Day event will be held at Willows Historical Park between 11am and 3pm.
