Grants Road closed at Plenty Road end

Grants Road is closed at the Plenty Road end due to significant damage being found on Thursday 20 November.

In a statement, Whittlesea council said it found a clear safety risk for the community, with large sections of the road’s surface breaking up.

Council has previously closed other damaged sections of Grants Road which diverted trucks on a detour route, creating this further deterioration.

According to the council, residents have reported hundreds of truck movements each day.

“The level of damage being caused is unacceptable… we understand and share the community’s frustration,” the council said.

Council said the heavy haul trucks are travelling on the road to a private property to construct a large dam, under a Melbourne Water permit.

Council said that current laws do not allow them to prevent trucks from using the road.

Council said is is working closely with Melbourne Water to minimise disruptions to residents, and hold those responsible to account.
